Another cooling problem (e30 s50 turbo with a/c)

Im running out of ideas, My car has e28 green mounts, I'm trying to fit my 16" spal fan, stewart water pump, e36 aluminum radiator, a/c condenser and fmic...I think it has been done before, here are some pics, the spal cooled the engine just fine with a powerdyne supercharger, just didn't get the a/c to work with that setup...

bought these Spec brackets but I think I won't be using them after all, the fan motor hits the water pump bolts, not the clutch fan thread which can be shaved...

the fan could work but I would have to mount it in this position that I don't like..

So what do you guys think are my options? stock e30 radiator will give me more clearance between engine-rad? clutch fan? audi fan with e30 clutch? other engine mounts? would it be enough in a florida-like heat place, there is about 1" space between condenser-intercooler, and about 0.5" between radiator and condenser, if I could make them closer it should work..

Audi fan fins are backwards. Look at my budget s51.5 swap thread. Im using euro diesel fan with 540 clutch. Fits great with plenty clearance.

I have the same radiator as you do on my S52 conversion and had to go with 2 thinner fans, I used the RAF-10+FMK

Just like other major components in the car, the radiator cannot work on its own. It has supporting parts that help it perform its function more efficiently. In order for the radiator to reduce temperature of the water and coolant mixture that goes through the engine, it needs airflow that absorbs the heat and assists evaporation.

They cleared the nose of the water pump and have worked well for 2+ years now. I would not give up that nice big radiator where you live. It's hot and humid here in South Carolina and I run air with no temp problems. This is the best I could get for a picture.

Wow, it's really thin, where did you get it? Which bmw diesel it came from?
But i see you did kept the aux fan right?

Wow, i can't believe those fans are working for you, maybe i should do the euro fan with those electric fans between the condenser and intercooler...

I got it at thebmwpartstore.com for 65 usd shipped. Pn is 11522243303. Not sure but it came on a lot of diesel models in the eu. I did retain the facotry pusher for a/c.

Maybe I can get a slim Spal or two small fans to go between the condenser and fmic, and use the euro you had... do you have the part no. of the clutch fan?

You can use basically any clutch. The clutch i used is from an e39 540i. The e36 clutch will work so will m20 e30 clutch.

Mine is the thin Spal puller (PN 30100400), the Mishimoto e36 radiator, and a pusher infront of the condenser.
Basically used the Spal brackets (PN 30130011 - 4 also come with the fan) cut to length and put the fan in the same position that the e30 shroud puts it.
Picture below doesn't have the A/C compressor in, but it is in now. All is well.
Note that the fan clutch threads are shaved.

what pusher did you use in the front? looks nice... does the puller Spal fan works hard to cool your engine? what t-stat, water pump and termoswitch are you running? also which engine mounts/arms are you running?

The pusher has been in place for years... It's a 16" Flexalite Syclone and fits with zero room to spare. The puller and pusher together are turned on by the radiator thermo switch (80C unit) or A/C. Thermostat is 80C and waterpump is standard S52. Arms are e36 with e28 M5 mounts.

Did a trip a couple weeks ago. Didn't get more than a hair above half way at any point with the A/C running. Temps maxed 85F-90F.

How about countersinking the bolt holes and using flat head socket screws to hold the pulley on?

The pulley material is too thin to countersink effectively.

I have been running mine w/o AC during the summer using just the aux fan and low temp switch. However I just got my custom lines crimped up, so I'll find out exactly how much air flow will be required in AZ 115 degree days w/ AC blasting. With the Mishimoto radiator, I'm not having much luck finding anything that will fit centered, starting to think I'll have to run a 12" puller offset.

also ordered a Spal (PN 30100400) to use as a pusher between the intercooler and condenser, hope all fits...
