Drill/Tap the head or delete TB heater...

Just swapped an M52 into my e34 and overlooked the part where I had to use the single pole E34-guage temp sender....SO I either have to drill & tap the head ON THE CAR to M14, or enlarge the TB heater port from M12 to M14(the latter not a good idea b/c of the wicked temp changes here in Germany).

Either way it sucks, or I thought about something else:

Since the 4-wire OBD2 ECT/Guage sender is speaking E36, would an E36 temp guage work if I put it into the E34's cluster?? Or is it such a different animal that it wouldn't work? I meanm if the guage takes the signal STRAIGHT from the sensor, w/o going through an intermediate processsor that translates the signal in any way, than it could work....

I may pull the guage from an extra E36(OBD2) cluster I have lying around, and try it out tomorrow.

Oh BTW, OBD2 manifolds are not, I repeat NOT a direct fit(the 4-6 was for me though, thank god). The 1-3 collector must be shortened, cursed at, man-handled, and spit on to fit right....along with the pipe. Had to cut it 80% thru, bolt up the collector/DP flanges, then weld it closed again.

E36 harness is a whore, it doesn't like fitting into the E34 harness housing. Waterpump pliers and zipties, god bless them.

Buy a depinning tool, don't cut up your inspection mirror...

Early 96 prod.....how'd you do it? Quick, before l drill......

Right now on the e36-side l have the brown/yellow in pin 11, and the brown/violet in pin 12. But on the e34 side, only pin 12 has a wire(brn/vlt) running to the chassis.

There's no wire running out of pin 11 on the e34/chassis side x20
