having a fuel starvation issue. Suspect HPFP under the car.

I occasionally get a fuel starvation on full throttle at high RPM. I have attributed it to the fuel pump.

Can I replace the in-tank pump with a bosch 044, or walbro, (or something else) and remove/bypass the HPFP under the car completely? Has anyone done this? If so, what pump did you use. Thanks.

has anyone replaced the in-tank filter with an aftermarket pump like a walbro gss342? Thanks!

There are lots of threads detailing exactly this. Lots of people ditch the dual pump setup for a single high pressure pump in the tank.

I bought two of these: http://treperformance.com/i-6323873-...1982-1994.html

and did this with it twice - one for my 91 318is and one for my 84 318i, which converted it to a single pump. Both work great. Good luck.

awesome. Thanks for that. I just finished my install of a genuine walbro in my e30 m3.

Unrelated question: did you go to Vanderbilt?

              alright. cool. Thanks.

that tre pump is cheaper than the walbro I just bought too!

Did you dump the external pump on the M3 then? I have fuel starve after right hand sweepers on track unless the tank is completely full.

yep/ got rid of the pump under the car completely. The walbro seems to be adequate now. Car is definitely stronger. Pulls all the way to redline hard.

the flow in the new pump ended up revealing a weakness in the hose adapter segment inside the pump. I had to remedy that, but the car now pulls like a bat out of hell.
