    s50 down on power??

Picked up a used '95 s50 motor and dropped it in my car. I think, however, that it might be down on power a bit. I haven't been to the dyno yet to see the numbers and the AFR, but compared to my friends e36 m3's it just doesn't pull as hard as I would have thought.

I plan on doing a compression test in the next couple of weeks to see how my compression is. For now, lets assume the compression is good...what are some good places to look on an s50? I'm not all that familiar with this motor so any pointers would be helpful.

I've replaced the spark plugs and have a new o2 sensor in the mail. Would old coil packs seriously effect power?? they came with the motor and are of unknown age.

The motor has the following upgrades: bimmerworld ltw flywheel, 3.5" HFM, 24lb injectors, intake, JC chip for the previously listed mods, and 3.46 diff. With those mods the car should pull like bloody hell, especially in my e30, but the truth is that it just really isn't that much faster than any of the e36 m3's I've either driven or run with through the gears. It is faster, but not convincingly like I would think it should be.

I'm not all about who's faster, but for now I'm just using it as a point of reference. Plus, this thing should kill an e36 m3, instead it just inches away.

I think my modded e30 m3 is as fast as this car right now, but probably not.

Anyone know where to start looking? I'm slightly annoyed at the moment, this thing feels really good and quick until I have a point of refernence like another e36 m3 next to me.

first thing to check would be compression, so do it to it. let us know.

can I buy any gauge from napa to test it? What thread are the spark plugs? I know they usually come with a few adapters, hopefully it's not a specialized size.

it should be a standard size.

About how much power are those e36 m3s putting down? Stock?

Sounds like your motor might be abit sluggish. I have the almost the exact same mods but I'm geared taller, I walk on e36 m3s w/ cams + more...

they put down about 200-210rwhp on a dynojet I think.

yeah it just doesn't feel like it's pulling as hard as it should, but like i say, with no point of reference...

oh yeah, I also have UUC pullies

Something is up. Me vs. E36s is hilarious and I can raise eyebrows on average drivers in an E46, and I have a 3.25.
                Im now E30less.

no clutch slipping. I don't know what's wrong with the car, it feels great like I say, until I have a point of reference. Maybe my friends car is just hella fast, yeah right!

I'm going to do a compression test shortly and got a new o2 sensor to put in. how much will old coil plugs affect power?

Anyone else care to add some ideas?

The coils don't go bad per say but the plug leads that attach to the coil to the dry rot and these do fail.
