Any good ways to move the coolant tank?

I want to move mine to the passenger side of the car. The driver side is really crowded and it dosnt give me any room to build a proper heat shield for my intake.

The only thing I can think of is to run a steel pipe or something between the motor and radiator and mount the coolant tank where the washer tank used to be.

    1. There already is a steel pipe in front of the engine...

    2. Just downgrade to the old style coolant system if you want this that bad - that one uses the passenger side coolant tank.

Personally, two is the best option.

What do you mean there is already a pipe infront of the engine?

he thinks youre running a late m20.
im sure its doable but it would be a spider web of hoses. youd need to reroute the hose that runs under the intake some way. id invest more time into your heat shield design. i think it would be easier in the end. for what its worth, i think the big fuss everyone makes over heatshields is rediculous. if we were on race teams and striving for every ounce of power id say it was worth it but we arent. we drive street cars. and that lump under your hood gives you all you need as im sure you already know. i dont run a heat shield and wont. i wish i had room to install a stock bmw airbox. cone filters suck but im stuck for now

Cant you put in a 318is or E36 radiator with integral resevoir? Seems like that would be the best way to go.

So long as you don't live somewhere that gets really hot, the M42 radiator does just fine and you'll have plenty of space to build your heat shield.

KISS man. More, longer, hoses means more to go wrong.

I prefer having it all neatly assembled in one little spot. If i was to change anything I'd mount one on the rad itself E36 style. Id like to find a really smalle over flow that just allows a cap to bleed overpressure and makes it easy to monitor the levels. Its not like I need the extra coolant for capacity with that bigass radiator I have now.
                Im now E30less.

What I mean is there is already a metal coolant pipe in front of your engine. It's in use by the coolant system to run coolant in front of the engine.

I'd suggest not doing this. You would have such a mess of hoses...for waht...a heatshield? It does seem silly to do all this for a heatshield.

people should really listen to permit, he's totally right. i had an m42 radiator in my hands during my swap. in fact i still havent added coolant, i may still go that route.
