    Overheathing issues again .............

Ok here is the deal e30 s50

    - I am using a 318is M42 radiator with water and water wetter plus an electric fan on it running constantly
    - I am running an aftermarket temperature gauge just incase
    - I am using the stock s50 thermostat which doesnt seem to open until 200 degrees or open completely not sure
    - I am using a metal impeller water pump
    - I dont have the one of the temp sensors in the head hooked up

With all of that i am still overheating to right about 235 degrees . It does , however take about 15 - 20 mins to get up to that temperature though. I did notice however my bottom hose is slighlty cooler than my top hose.

Any ideas....maybe the m42 radiator not doing the trick ....only other thing i can think of is do a lower temp radiator.

um... first of all make sure the cooling system is totally bled, sometimes it can be hard to get a fresh system totally bled.

is your electric fan sufficient? if its hot where you live it really should be a good fan. if all else fails i'd say you should go with a bigger radiator, that radiator was never meant for 6 cylinders although i'd use swapping radiators as a last resort.

If the hoses going into the firewall are reversed the system wont flow properly and overheat. Im not sure why the valve does that but it did it in my car when I didnt dot my "i"s when putting the car back together.

my hoses are currently reversed (cause I'm retarded) and I don't have any overheating issues at all. my car runs just below half on the gauge all day long with 6-cylidner radiator and a stock electric fan only.

Maybe i should do a lower temp thermostat like 80 degrees ?

Maybe something is different with the valves but mine definately overheated when I had them reversed. I burped it multiple times and it would always heat up normally but then just keep going. All I did was drop the coolant and reversed them. I even reused the coolant so nothing changed about the mix.

I was running an 89 degree stat both times. After reversing them it goes to just below half and stays there.

I live in Louisiana so i know all about the heat also.

                What i am running:

dual 12'' fans (pushing air, not pulling)(wired to a switch in the cabin for more control)
                Active Autowerke 71 degree thermostat
                50/50 coolant
                a bottle of water wetter
BUT i am also running an e36 radiator.

You may also want to try this stuff called "40 bellow". Its $20 but well worth it. It made a DRAMATIC difference in my car last summer. I only switched to water wetter bc it was cheaper when i busted a few hoses.

Im not sure why you'd put such a cold stat in there. Its not going to change the peformance of the cooling system, only keep the engine below the prime operating temp.

a lot of people use the colder t-stat as part of a fan delete kit, although I bought my low t-stat from bimmerworld and it's an 80C I think. I just looked at their website and they offer a number of different options.

Im still not sure HOW its goin to help. It opens quicker but once its open both the 70 and the 90 degree stats are going to work the same. a colder stat doesnt mean its going to stay colder.

Well i saw a differnce where my needle sits after instalation. I had replaced it with another stock thermostat, and it still ran hot. So then
I put in the AA one and it doesnt over heat now.

I also have a 71 degree thermostat, it's a rare occasion for it to go over halfway, which I'd rather it do than risk it overheating, especially in Arizona.

Im running the same radiator and water wetter with a 50/50 mix

one 16" fan on front of radiator.

Car usually runs at 1/2. somtimes in traffic it goes to the next mark on the temp guage.

I had serious trouble bleeding my system. They can be very troublesome.
Make sure when bleeding you rev the motor. Helps get some air bubbles out or at least did for me.

                            Good luck!

***** Problem fixed thanx for some of the ideas guys ******

The beast is running at about 195 degrees at a stand still idle now.

-What i did was removed my condenser , took the fan off of it and put it on my radiator. The fan has two speeds which i forgot about and now that i have it set on the high speed which is controlled by my A/C button i am just fine.

BTW i am posting some pics in the members area.
