I am running ms3x on my M50 turbo and left the idle valve in, it took me about 10 minutes of fiddling with settings (having almost no idea what I was doing) to get it to function correctly. To tune the idle you simply change the duty cycle of the valve. I don't know why you would want to take it out, but to each his own.

That my friend is comforting. I'm going to look up your build thread, I would very much like to see your set up.

I posed a question wondering if anyone has deleted it, and actually gone through the process of having the dsm ignore it. I've seen it done on other platforms and wondered why. Doesn't seem that anyone has done it on the M50/m52 motors, or doesn't want to talk about it.

    Thanks for everyone's input.
If I had to hypothesize why it gets removed on other platforms, i'd look at the type of idle control they run. Theres various methods, some crap, some complicated, some more trouble than they are worth. I would guess the DSM idle control might not play nice with standalone engine management thats popular on that engine, but I am just speculating.

Fortunate for us, the BMW one is easy to control and use with standalone management, and its a German part with a wire sticking out of it thats actually fairly reliable making it quite rare indeed.

Ever tried starting a carb'd car with a broken choke when it's cold outside? You live up north, if this car is gonna be driven in sub 60 temps deleting the IAC is a bad idea.

it sucks. that's why nobody talks about it. Guys who only drive it to a race track, sure. there's not really a great reason to do it other than "just because".

The only problem I have experienced is on cold starts it will idle around 500 rpm. I am assuming come winter if I don't replace the ICV I will have issues with stalling at idle.

I figure it would have to be omitted via a tune in order to control idle directly off throttle plate position.

Does it operate beyond idle? I can't see it making a difference in drive-ability otherwise.

Have you ever seen someone try it?

I'm probably stuck on what I have seen work on other platforms. DSM's get rid of it pretty quickly when going for bigger boost, same with fords. Shit, there are plenty of cars I have worked on that got rid of both IAC and MAF and run MAP with per-configured settings under idle conditions (to include BMW's)

I should mention that my car is not a daily and adding forced induction is the end result.

Thanks for the input. Just trying to educate myself from others experience.
