    OBD II Coolant sensor wiring

Apologies if this has been discussed somewhere previously - I have been searching through this forum and the "project" forum to see if i could find an answer myself. I have an '87 325is that will (eventually) have an s52 swapped into it. I am planning on keeping it OBD II.

The s52 has a 4-wire sensor in the head and the stock e30 temp sensor appears to have one wire. From what I've researched, it appears one of the four wires from the s52 temp sensor will connect to the re-threaded e30 sensor (brown/violet if i remember) for the gauge reading on the dash. It appears two of the other wires will stay connected to the s52 sensor for the DME to use (Grn/Brn & Brn/Red). That leaves one wire that appears to be unused since the temp gauge circuit in the e30 is grounded through the block?

So - only 3 of the 4 wires on the s52 harness are needed. Is this correct?

    Thanks!
    -Geno

Yes. You can cut the 4th and run it to the sensor and use that wire rather than running a new one.
