    e30 m52 timing off?

so im trying to help my cousin with replacing the head gasket(overheat) on his e30 m52 and the timing seems to be off. this is my first time so im not too sure but when the crank is at the TDC, isn't the arrow on the exhaust cam supposed to be pointing up like in this thread(click for link to thread)?

this is what my cousins motor looks like when at TDC:

i checked to make sure piston 1 and 6 are at TDC through the spark plug holes and they are right there, but the cams seem to be off. the car was running fine and the HG has already been done once before, just fyi. thanks in advance for any help

the small exhaust sprocket is 90 degrees off. You could remove and adjust it if you so desire but since its running properly, I wouldn't mess with it.

Thanks for the reply. So do you think who ever did the head gasket before me might have just put the sprocket on 90 degrees off?
