ground strap

can anyone recommend a substitute or provide a part number for this ground strap? mine is frayed and somewhat rusted. i temporarily covered it with electrical tape but want to replace it soon. this ground is on the pass side below the exhaust manifolds. thank

Not the best grounding point.
Get a replacement one from the dealer for around $10 12511714039
And then attach it to the block.

What is that washer doing in the engine bracket?

You should be able to goto any farm supply store or big hardware store and they should have one. We have "Fleet Farm" which is just a big farm and hardware store. All it is, is just a big guag ewire with some ends on it.

go to autozone, get ~10" battery ground strap and attach it RIGHT where you have it. that is the perfect ground, just make sure all the surfaces are clean.

all good man. that ground spot on the engine mount arm is the factory e36 engine ground spot, and the post/nut on the body is the factory e30 ground, just on the other side of the engine bay, that's why there's really no better ground IMHO.

I realize the post/nut on the body is for the ground, I have never payed close attention to the E36 brackets but because the hole is there I would assume that is what it is for. I attached my ground directly to the block because I am concerned with electric flow. The bracket seems to be made out of a material that would be higher resistance.
I could be wrong.

The bracket is cast aluminum. Aluminum has a better electrical conductivity than cast iron. But, if there's corrosion between the bracket and the block, it's going to have a worse conductivity. It's still most likely going to be good enough. It's probably small enough that it's really splitting hairs.

Mine actually had a copper plate on it too.

I used that ground and the ground to the oilpan. Cant have too many grounds.
