    using e34 power steering pump??

    my motor obviously came with the e34 pump. i bought all new e30 lines and they were much bigger than the top hole of the e34 pump, didnt even come close to fitting, so i capped the rack and decided to buy an e36 pump and hook up PS when i get that. manual steering FTW!! (its actually pretty nice feeling above 10mph)

    regardless, im wondering if anyone has sucessfully used an e34 pump? if so what lines did you use? any suggestions are appreciated. thanks,

    I used the E34 pump. You should contact a hydrolic/pneomatic specialist shop and bring them the E34 and the E30 lines. Ask them to make a new line for you with an E30 sized fitting on the rack end and an E34 sized fitting on the pump end.

      What sized fittings did you use to cap the rack? My M50 didn't come with a PS pump and I'm thinking of running my rack manual until I can get a pump.

        i dont know i just found bolts that threaded in and cut them down to size. if i recall correctily one was m14 1.5mm thread. the other was m16 15mm thread, about 20mm length would be good. and i dont think you'll be able to run the motor without the pump there becuase the serpentine belt needs the powersteering pulley. unless you find a way around that. not worth the effort imho.

        from everything i assumed and everything im hearing ill just go e36 pump with e30 lines.

          People building track only cars just measured it off with string and went to pep boys (whatever) and bought a belt in the right size.
          Im now E30less.

              I'm using an e34 pump with an e30 m3 rack. I didn't have any high pressure hoses laying around that worked so I made one out of 2500psi braided hose from summit racing. I bought the hose and all the appropriate fittings to work the way I wanted it to. It cost me about $50 for the whole setup and I was able to assemble the line in about 15 minutes. No leaks, works perfectly for the 1st 1500 miles so far.

              I had to buy metric to AN adapters and 90degree swivel ends to come off the pump and the rack. Then I just ran the hose in between. It takes up virtually no room under the hood and looks trick as hell, everyone is always asking me where I got that part from.

                For those that want to run without the PS pump, it is a 105cm belt. I just picked one up at my local auto parts store and it fits great.
