Using e36 oil pickup tube instead of e34?

All of the tutorials I've read for the 24v swap say that you have to use the e34 oil pickup/suction tube. However, a buddy of mine has successfully used the e36 tube more than once. Has anyone else used the e36 tube?

P.S. If anyone has an e34 tube for sale let me know.

The e36 pickup tube is completely different because it is a rear sump pan on e36. The only way it could possibly work is to either heavily modify the e36 pan or the e36 dipstick tube to fit an e34 pan.
