What are you guys feeding ur S52's with? My 30 year old 318i pump is finally giving up and im curious to know if it was a sufficient fuel source to begin with. I was thinking of going with the latest external 325i pump.

If you are saying using an e30 325i pump, they are not external.
Friend of mine has an 84 318 with an s52 and got an m42 fuel pump bracket and stuck a walbro 255 in it and bypassed the external pump.
Make sure when you bypass the external pump to connect the two power wires back together otherwise you won't get power to the intank pump. Remove/ tie up the ground. -

Early models had a low pressure in tank pump and then a high pressure external pump, late models only had one in-tank pump. Personally, before I went with a surge tank setup was using a lone Walbro 255 in tank and had no issues other than cavitation when too low on fuel (very common even without a swap). When I went to the surge tank setup I had a low pressure pump feeding a Bosch 044 with very good results. Also of note, early model and late model fuel pump carriers are different.88 325is - S52 powered
