could someone please measure the length of the ix booster adapter?

Sorry for the odd-ball post. Title states is all. I've got an ix booster and an adapter from a 5-series. The junkyard I got the booster from crushed the car :( so I'm sol there. According to realoem, the ix adapter doesn't exist so I can't even order it. If I can get the length of the ix adapter (mounting plate to mounting plate), I can cut and reweld my 5-series one. Help anyone!? Maybe it's possible to measure this with it in the car?

For people who might use the ix booster... You need this adapter to go between the booster and the firewall. Remember this if you decide to get one from a junkyard! This adapter is used on some 5-series cars, but it's longer than the ix one. I tried bolting it up and the rod from the booster doesn't reach the pedal assembly.

I'm using an IX booster with a IX MC and had no problems mounting it to the
    E30 firewall.

    What measurments do you need?

It's the piece that goes between the booster and the firewall. You probbably got your booster with this attached and never removed it.

It's #2 in the link below:

I would be very grateful if you could measure the length of this for me. Mounting plate to mounting plate. I think you can do it while it's in the car. I don't think it needs to be exact as there is some adjustment on the pushrod. Basically the adapter I have now is too long and the pushrod doesn't reach the mount on the brake pedal.

It looks to be about 1-1.5 inches long. I tried to get a dial caliper down there but I dont have enough room.

It really shouldnt matter a whole lot in reality. Theres the adjustment nut on the end of the shaft that you can move around to get it spot on. I was going to ditch that coupler and put the booster right on my firewall then cut the shaft down like the e21 booster to see if I could get away without running a remote res.

Heres a pic that might help

Jesse, what brake M/C did you end up using? The pedal feel is fucking fantastic.

JJ Byzanz, what happened to the car? Did the mafia show up in the middle of the night and take it away on a flatbed?

Thanks for making the measurement!! I agree that it's not too critical since there is an adjustment. I like the idea of eliminating the remote reservoir. Any idea of how much further back does it need to go to make a standard reservoir fit? I'd like to try to do this.

I dont know if it will fit even if its against the firewall but it might. I tried skipping the bracket but I found the bolts on the booster do not line up with the fire wall. You could either drill new holes in the firewall and chop the shaft and see if you get enough clearence to not run a remote res, or you could try and make a very short adapter plate.

Looks like it's going to fit! I slotted the mounting holes on the e30 and got the ix booster to bolt directly to the firewall. The intake manifold, throttle switch, and intake boot all clear the resivior. Pretty cool! I'll try to get the pushrod cut and rewelded and then take some pictures.

Awesome, I thought it would work I just didnt know why anyone hasnt done it. Seems like the best of both worlds. Double drum booster and a non-remote res.

I've got the exact same problem - got a IX booster w/o an adapter - I'd rather run my booster tight to the firewall - how much did you shorten the pullrod? Also, you might have already mentioned, but I didn't see which master cylinder you were running.

I'm using the M5 master cylinder - expensive little bugger... I didn't measure how much of the pushrod I cut off. I referenced the original booster and cut accordingly. I found a nut (might have been an oil-pump nut) which nearly fit over the pushrod diameter. I drilled out the threads and got a very snug fit which I then used as a sleeve to couple the pushrod back together. I then tack welded the nut to the pushrod - jb weld might work too.

I don't like the idea of mounting that to the firewall with only two bolts. But whatever works.

Yeah. I didn't like that either, but even with the mounting adapter you still only have two bolts comming off the ix booster.
