can I use e36 fuel pump in e30?

I know I don't need to do this as part of the swap. My e30 fuel pump doesn't sound good - I can hear it "hissing/buzzing" from under the car. I have a perfectly working fuel pump from a e36 328.

Can I stick that in there?

    Thanks

I know of a guy that has done it, but I don't know how much modifying it required. I'm sorry that doesn't really help, but knowing that it's doable would give me the confidence to try.

Let us know how you make out!

Will do. Haven't gotten to it, but someone on bimmerforums said you just swap them. And it's simple

I did it. Take e36 pump out of its carrier as they are totally different. The pump itself is practically identical except for one minor detail in the pump case. When you swap it youll see and be like oh thats it. No modification required.

I know its not a E36. But my E30 has a fuel pump out of the same E34 I pulled its motor out of.

thanks guys, got confirmation from bimmerforums as well. They should just swap out of the carriers. Simple enough. Just need to get to it when I have time.

Do the pumps have an internal check valve?

thought so. read something at some point about the e30 check valves going bad. I think theres some retrofit kit to remedy that. Guess it won't matter after replacing the pump to new e36 pump.

                thanks
