    CAI for S50/M50 swaps

    Hi

so anyone figured out a good solution to avoid drawing warm air from inside the engine compartment?
I just feel my car loosing power as the engine bay warms up.

any suggestions and esspecially pictures are appreciated

    Thanks
    Alex

just build a custom heatshield for it, that's really the best anyone's coming up with, i suppose you could run a CAI honda stylie, but the risk (water) vs. benefit factor is probably minimal. search around. its been covered.

Sorry for the huge picture, but here's mine I just put in recently. It's Lukas' m42 heatshield with a few cuts made so it would fit better/right. All I wanted was something that would get my filter off my alternator and block out some of the heat from the top radiator hose.

The best cold air intake was the one I put in an e30 m50 at work. After we swapped in the motor, we found the airbox from a Jaguar, and it fit perfectly behind the headlight. It is sucking in air from right behind the headlight, next to the fender.
It fits so perfectly that it looks like it was made for it. PLus, since it is an enclosed airbox, the Cali smog police won't care.

The only catch is that this went into an '85 car, so there was no ABS module to get in the way. This Jag airbox will not work in a car with ABS.

I have made some changes, so disregaurd the text. I cut off my stock air box bracket so it is just a nice round curve. And i fixed the excess cutout for the radiator hose. I run a k&n filter, and it fits fine.

I keep posting this, but it is my only "claim to fame" so far.

Downside: no room for ABS or radiator overflow (I will have to put it on righthand side when i go to 6cyl radiator - no big deal as I have already moved the wiper/washer reservior out of the way)

            Upside: it sure is pretty...hahahaha

Sweet, thanks for providing the template! I haven't quite ironed out where or what my air filter arrangement will be, but yours looks pretty good!

Yeah, i was going to follow your box design, but i have the ABS quantum dysfunctioner right their. Hopfully i will be getting rid of that soon!

Yea i have been thinking about taking off my ABS, never been saved by it and i have felt like it has hurt my braking more than has helped. What has to be done to the brake lines or somthing to take it off?

um... my ABS hasnt worked since my swap and i dont like not having it, its not the worst, but i've locked it up a couple times in the rain. i can live with no ABS, but i feel its something every street car should have.

Yea i am not possitive i will take it out but i think i might have a DD before rainy season so i might just take it out when i paint my engine bay and leave it out.

funny thing my ABS light was on since my swap too (done by my mechanic), when i complained, he checked sensors and found a faulty one. So we found a used one and reinstalled in place of the bad one, the light still there and ABS doesn't work. So now i have a feeling that ABS was lost somewhere in the swap process.

Do you know exactly what model did it come from?
