To buy an entire e36 M3 for parts, Engine + Suspestion.

    Hello,

I am looking to swap the S50 or S52 into my 318iS, but I have a couple of questions.

IMO the e30 brakes a poor in track conditions, I have tried several different combinations, but the truth of the matter is, I need a larger brake package to fill safe with an S5x under the hood.

My original idea was to purchase a salvage e36 M3 for the engine, transmision.....all the way to the brakes and suspention.

So the question arises, are any parts of the e36 M3 suspension usable? If so, how much does the gemetry change? I am just looking to package larger brakes.

Second, considering I have a 4.10 open diff, would the M3 diff be able to be used?

The e36 m3 suspension will work poorly. no the diff is not usable either.

e30 m3 fronts and rears or z3 rears are the way to go.

The car may be worth to buy just for all the swap parts. If you do a 5 lug conversion you can also use the e36 m3 front brakes which should put the front nose into the ground, from what I have read its the best "BBK" you can get for the money.

If you can find the right m3 parts car and the time and space to part it out then its the way to go. I looked for months for the right one but i never found one so i went a different route. You can come out even after taking lots of needed parts.

thats your opinion, atleast point in in the right direction for using E36 bits and let him make is own mind up.

You will need some other parts to make it work but plenty of people are using it as a perfectly good alternative.

interesting thread sums up both options pretty good

            Dude,

It's no opinion: it's fact. Using e36 fronts fucks up the geometry, but i guess you wouldn't know that.

agreed but its not unfixable... e30m3 front and mz3 rear is the easiest and safest way to go imho if you dont want to do anything custom

e30m3 brakes are plenty for an s52 with nice pads and ss brake lines... save up for a nice set of brakes after that like brembo... or if you feel adventureous make a custom porsche kit

e30s52's might want bigger brakes at the track. i began to overheat some hawk ht10's (track pads) and started to get considerable fade. i should have taken a pyrometer to them, but i just forgot. cheers, jason

I agree with you completely. When my car had its swap done, the stock e30 M3 brake conversion with Performance Friction PF90/91 compund was more than adequate on the track. It wasn't until after I had the serious work done to the car that I had to move up to Brembo's 330mm 4 piston BBK.

How do you like the 330mm brembo kit?

This is the kit I want to get in the future? You have just the front or both f and r?

i have the 322mm front rotor with porsche 993 turbo calipers in the front and 299mm rotrs with boxter s calipers in the rear... very similar to the brembo kit... very balanced and when you slam on the brakes you stop like you just rearended a 18 wheeler... 25mm mc and ss lines are a must and a bbc is nice to have

It's sick. When you hit the brakes hard, it feels like your eyeballs are being sucked right out of your head. I have just the front, as Brembo only made a front set-up for the e30 M3.
