    m50 getrag 260 questions

I'm running an m50nv in my e30 mated with g250 stock e36 tranny and I noticed my 3rd gear grinds very hard to the point where it doesn't want to go in gear at higher rpms. I'm also running 3.73 LSD and my rpms are high on highway speed. So I have a spare g260 stock e30 tranny laying around and I need to know what other parts I need besides the trans brace/ mount to fix shifter problems.

Can I use all m50 components ( flywheel ,clutch , starter, etc) and just bolt up g260 or do i have to use all m20 parts? I don't really want to deal with machining anything like flywheel or wat not its my DD just need it on the road.I can't find good enough answers anywhere online . Thanks

You can use the m50 flywheel clutch etc with no machining. Your trans will be rotated 10-15% so you will need a modified trans brace (someone on forum makes em for around 80 bucks) and youll need to modify your shift selector rod. Also you need a driveshaft to match it (this is the only part im not sure is compatible).

Thanks for your input helped out a lot! Why would the selector rod have to be modified?

I have all the m20 parts ( starter flywheel clutch ) would that need to be machined if I put it on m50?

The selector rod needs to be twisted 10-15 degrees or your ahifter wont sit center. And no you dont have to machine the m50 parts unless you need to resurface the flywheel etc.

I have a getrag 260 on an m50nv with the stock m50 clutch. You need the slave cylinder to go with the e30 transmission. The hardest part is making the shifter nice and modifying the transmission brace. If you or a friend has a welder, it is easier.

If you use late model single mass M20 flywheel (I did) then you need to get the back side that faces the M50 engine machined down about 8mm or so. If not, you would be hitting some parts of the M50 oil pan.

The m20 clutch is a 228mm disc, so if you were looking to add power down the road now would be the time to upgrade to a 240mm setup.
If you have both setups and they are both 228mm I would use whatever flywheel is lighter.
Selector rod needs to be bent to accommodate for the trans rotation. A new brace or a modified brace is required to get the trans to mount. Most modified braces I have seen look very sketchy. I do offer specifically designed ones that fit great, and are very strong.

I bought one of your braces. It's a beeeast haha. And yes, good idea to upgrade to the larger size clutch and flywheel. I'm curious to what a stage 3 M20 size torque limit is to a stage 1 E36 M size of the same manufacturer.

I was going to use my G260 for my S52 swap but decided to do a 6 speed conversion instead. I have a brand new Garagistic G260 swap brace and brand new UUC selector rod made specifically for the G260 with 24V swap I would be willing to sell. Just haven't gotten around to posting them for sale. PM me if interested.

What throwout bearing can I use with all stock m50 clutch/flywheel. Would I have to use the g250 bearing or the stock e30 g260 bearing on the g260 trans?
