All right, broke on Rod on my S50... The block is good for the scrap yard... The head should be good.
Here are the two choices I have:
1- Found a "local" complete S52 with 107k miles with compression number between 193 and 197psi. It comes from a rear ended M3. The car has been hit in 2012. Car moved in a garage in 2013 when the transmission had been removed and the compression was taken. Oil was put in cylinders and motor was rotated. It has been sitting there since then... Price 2000$ CAD.
2- Buy a rebuilt S52 short block from a "local" well known BMW racing shop and put my head on it. Price: 2000$ CAD + head studs and gasket...
I like the idea of a fresh block, but the complete engine has its good points also.
What would you do?
