    M52B28 3000rpm rattle

Yes, I've read a lot of vanos related posts, but I'm not sure if this is the case.
The engine runs silent at idle and up, no marbles, no loss of power.
When the engine is warmed up a bit there's a rattling noise around 3100-3000 rpm when shifting; throttle till 3500, clutch in, engine rpm drops and than around 3000 there's that sound for a second.
Normally the vanos porblems can be heard from 700-1500rpm, so I'm not sure if I have that issue.
The rod bearings have been replaced when I swapped the engine, new bolts, right torque etc. Also a new chain tensionner was placed.
It sounds a bit like a worn sprockets, but these looked fine 10000 miles ago.
    Any thoughts on this?

Vanos rattle in mine was right about 2500-2900. Sounds exactly like what you have. Id bet that if you stand under your hood and rev to 3200 or so then let off you will hear it. No shift needed.

        Thanks.
I only came across topics with a rattle at low rpm's.
I'll order some parts tonight and will post my findings once replaced.
