Bleeding the system with the expansion tank mounted low?

    Bleeding the system with the expansion tank mounted low?

    This on a 1987 E30 with an m50, e36 m3 radiator and e36 expansion tank. Couldn't mount it to the radiator, no room. It's mounted 6 inches or more below the factory location which is normally mounted at the top of the radiator.

    What would be the best way to bleed, I do have a compressor and one of those fancy vacuum bleeders that can be hooked up to the expansion tank and then filled.

    Also as far as bleeding without a vacuum bleeder, is it possible to bleed it through the factory bleed point or is it to low? If it is to low what's the best option to bleed it. Unhook the small hose from the top of the radiator and let it bleed out of there?

    That's notit going to work with it mounted there. The expansion tank is going to fill completely full before the rest of the system is full. You literally won't be able to put enough coolant in. Trayck needs to be the highest point yI the system.

      remove it and throw away the expansion tank if you wish to put it in a place it cannot function properly.

      purchase the proper expansion tank to match your body if you wish to not melt your engine

        Thanks! That explains why it was such a pain in the butt bleeding it. Looks like a late model e30 expansion tank is the best option.
