    Block serial # help

I bought a 1986 325es with a motor swap. The previous owner said it was a m50 swap. He said he got the the engine from a guy who had this motor in a m3. The guy totaled the m3 so he sold the motor to the guy i bought the car from. Then he swapped it in the e30. Im not sure if they were feeding me BS but who knows. Further investigation I have found a serial on the drivers side that reads. "30 6 s 2 ***"

"30 6 s 2 ***". I cant read the rest. Is this a 3.0 liter? I have been searching engine codes and it seems that this code isnt listed. I looked here for info but couldn't come to any conclusions.

M3 had S50's. Yes, they were 3 liter. Post a picture of the engine.

My S50 has a stamp on the drivers side (above the motor mount arm I think) that has a "30" in it, signifying the 3.0L displacement so I think you have an S50.
