    M50 - No spark + No fuel

    Hi everyone.
This is not an E30, but i think that this is the forum to try!

I have bought a E36 with an m50 engine swap.
    Chassi : BMW 316 1994
    Engine : M50B25 1992

I bought it dead thinking that the EWS was the problem, but still no luck. I have cut wire 7, to pin 81 on the ECU.

With ECU ending 413 the car starts, however this is a vanos box so the car does not run good... :P
With the correct ecu ending 402, no spark + no fuel relay engaging.

Any idea on where to look? I think that there is a between a 92 car to 94, therefore the newer box works. However i havent found out why...

ANY tips would be great! :)

Check the Crankshaft Position Sensor part number, they are different between VANOS & non VANOS. You may have the incorrect one in order for the car to run on a 413 rather than a 402.

      Hi.
Engine was pulled from a working vehicle with the m50 harness and engine intact. Only the car is 1994 from harness and behind.
So that cant be wrong, however you are correct on the part that they use different.

I cant explain how it is running with the 413 box :S

edit: nevermind i was reading something wrong.

but are vanos and non-vanos chassis harnesses the same?
if not then that could be your problem

Okay, if we look at it this way..

Whats the minimum that is needed to rum with OEM DME?

We can assume that the wiring harness on the engine is good.
What is needed on the X20 minimum?

Well, i know have a solution to this.
It sure was a CPS problem, even toh i thought this was impossible.

Las owner had not connected it properly.

I spoke to a buddy of mine with a E36 with a vanos engine ( 413 box ) and he has a broken CPS, and the temporary solution was just to unplug it. It runs without it and only with camsync. Therefore that box will run even without a CPS.

So with the CPS connected correctly it now works with the 402 box! :D
