M50 swap DME and relay questions

Hi so I recently purchased a m50 swap 325i at a great deal due to it not being a finished project. When I picked it up it was starting however after the tow home I tried again and it wouldn't crank at all, just a loud click. Tried a remote starter and I can hear the engine spinning but no crank. Did a bunch of research and have a good list of things to go through but figured the first place I'd start is grounds and relays. All grounds looked to be in good shape, I figure I'll try running jumpers from the oil drain plug to the steering rack to add an extra ground, but first the relays.

There are three "loose" relays coming from the engine, one marked ECU, one marked fuel pump and the third one is unmarked but after reading around I'm guessing this is the oxygen sensor? I pulled all three and they're all corroded. I read posts where people are using the same relay for all three, but different part numbers. Some are using 61361729004(white oem) while others are using 61368373700OE(mint oem). I also looked at some pictures of e36 fuse boxes and it looks like they had mint for fuel pump and oxygen sensor and white for the main system relay. So which one is the correct combination or will any combo of these two relays essentially work?

Also a question regarding the stomp test, I gave this a try but don't think it was working correctly. It did the initial 5 seconds on 5 off, 2.5 on 2.5 off, but then after that all it would do is one blink then one longer blink and continuously repeat this. I turned it off, tried again and got the same thing. At this point I thought it was the 1000 code so I did the 10 second hold down to clear it. Tried again hoping to see the 1444 code but still got the same one blink then one longer blink and repeat. I believe this is a red 413(as the seller said it came with two red 413s and I found the other one in the trunk, the one connected to the car doesn't have the outside cover on it so I'm not 100% sure, need to ask the PO) and the check engine light was/is still on to my knowledge. I searched around but was unable to find another instance of this happening so I was hoping someone here would be able to shed some light on it.

Try jumping the relays. Google it there are a few threads out there that tell you exactly how to do it. If you can get your fuel pump to prime by jumping the relay then either the relay is out or you need an ews delete chip.

I jumped the fuel pump relay when using the remote starter. My main question regarding the relays is whether or not I can use one of the parts numbers listed above for all three relays. And from what I gathered when reading around I thought that the red 413 doesn't have ews? I believe the engine originally came from a 93. Also the engine is OBDI as I forgot to mention that in the original post.

I was also convinced that all red label 413s dont have ews. But ews is chip dependent. So if you may or may not have ews depending on the chip. I was able to start my s50 on the b25 non ews chip, for the first start while waiting for a replacement 413 chip because the first one I got had ews.

I believe your unlabeled relay is for headlights and or horn, could be wrong. But there should be two 4 prong relays which can be interchanged, and your main relay should have 5 prong. Im not sure if 5 prong can go into other relay positions but the 4 prong relay will not work for the main relay. Try searching on here worst thing that can happen is you pick up info you didnt expect to

Good luck with finishing up

I also thought I read something saying that the EWS wouldn't stop the engine from cranking, it would just kill fuel injection or not trigger the coil packs or something along those lines. I searched around but I'm unable to find the thread again.

All three relays that I pulled were five prong. I read almost everything on this forum regarding relays(and also no crank/no start) and was unable to find a definitive answer regarding whether or not I can actually use the same relay for all three as some people are stating they're doing. Trying to get everything correct the first time and not fry my harness. If I'm unable to get any additional info from here I'm probably going to go with the mint colored for fuel pump/oxygen sensor and white for the main DME relay.

The reason I think the unmarked relay is the oxygen sensor is because of the layout of the e36 fuse box. Right outside of the fuse box is a small black box with three relays in it, fuel pump/DME/o2 sensor. Since they wouldn't fit in the e30 fuse box he just left them hanging. I'll have to hook up the headlights to test em but I'll check the horn to see if it's working also.
