    M50 swap oil pan info/question

    Hey everybody...

I am not sure if anyone has ever managed to hook up the e34 oil level sensor, but I am not bothering with it (I bought a new oil pan, no sensor) so I found a block off plate from some sort of euro car with no oil level sensor.

    BMW #s
    11 13 1 726 357 - plate
    12 61 1 277 129 - o-ring

This will increase oil capacity somewhat, and gets rid of some useless hardware, which I like.

So now my question is... what is the oil capacity of the e34 oil pan? Thanks!

    Matt

I bypassed my oil level sensor since I thought it was leaking.
      Machined a piece out aluminum.

-Car holds about 6.5+/- US quarts.

oil leak turned out to be o-ring on dipstick tube.

Are you referring to the oil level sensor, as in the LED on the check panel for our E30's?

Is that where our E30 level sender is?

On the E34 oil pan, there's a sensor that attaches to the bottom of the oil reservoir. It's part 11 in the attached diagram. As you can see, it's a cylindrical part that displaces some oil volume.

            Right.

11 13 1 726 357 is part #10 in that diagram, in case you want to do away with the sender.

You have an o-ring that isn't nicked or torn? You have it torqued properly?
