    tranny selection.

    hey guys,

im a ususal poster on maXbimmer.com but i came here to ask an question regarding gathering parts for my M50 swap into my 1991 318iS....i've heard that the Getrag 240 can bolt-on to the m50 w/ e36 driveshaft. yes/ no? also since im going to be dropping in the M50 myself and then handing it over for wiring, should i invest in the Project Orca cd-rom? looking at the info it has i would feel more confident going into the swap with the info on this CD....what ya'll e30m50 gurus think???

The orca cd doesn't have much for the 318is and doesn't offer the wiring for it ether. The 240 transmission will bolt up, you'll need a e30 325i shift likage and carrier, I'm not sure about the drive shaft I have a e36 325i shaft that is supposed to work but it looks about 2 or 3" to short, I doubt I can stretch it that far but I haven't tried. If it does work I have an extra I'll sell you for $40 plus shipping.

If you going to hand it off for s/o to do the wiring you should just get a pre made harness from zionsville.

think treehouse makes a wiring adapter too, dont know if the chasis donor being a 318 changes anything though.

i just might do that regarding the pre-made harness but i've heard they are $$$ but i'll go check it out(edit $399 usd ouchh)!!...i guess i will grab the cd for the actual dropping in of the motor since all that is the same as an 325....looking on the Euro depot they say you must use an e36 driveshaft with the getrag 240. gonna look into it more..thanks guys..cant wait till i pick up my 1994 vanos M50...
