Have you replaced the thermal resistor? Common issue. But it should work in the high position unless it's totally burnt. Cost about 38 dollars before CCA discount.

BMA has it for 29?
No, i haven't. Would the fan still come on when i hit the a/c switch if that was burnt?
Where is this resistor located? so I can search for a part#.
Is the bulb in the switch burnt out? Have you turned on the AC switch and the fan came on?
The resistor is normally located on the aux fan it's ceramic and cylindrical. The part number is on www.realoem.com and on BMA's site.
Yes,
that's why i was asking. When i hit the a/c switch, the aux fan comes on but it doesn't come on when the engine heats up like its supposed to. Do you know if it would still come on if the resistor was burnt?

No. THe AC turns the fan on the low position so if the resistor was gone it wouldn't work at all.
Are you sure that the car is heating up enough to trigger the fan? It has to be pretty clsoe to over heating to come on even at the low position.
Yeah, i'm pretty sure. The needle creeps to about the 3/4 mark if i'm sitting still and traffic and goes back down the 1/2 mark once i get moving.
I dont know if it's worth dumping anymore money into this unless i can get a cheap fix. Otherwise, i'm thinking about losing the belt fan and using a spal fan.
The ground for the fuel gauge and the temp gauge is a small brass nut on the back of the gauge.
They do get loose and give false readings but usually this manifests itself in jerky readings and sudden jumps back and forth and can usually be corrected briefly by a swift smack of your hand on the gauge.
arsevader is right by the time it the fan kicks on its almots too late.
A few things you might want to check, is the leafs a debris jamed in the radiator so it cant get proper air flow.
How is your viscus fan clutch sound a like it is a little weak and not locking up like it should.
BTW factory temp guages are not much more than gloryfied idiot light, I didnt realize this untill I drove a bimmer with spa guages and a factory coolant guage intact. Basicly the factory guage is a aproximation at best.
