S52 running cold at all times?

Ive just got swapped car back from the muffler shop. The car has been driven around a little for the past 2 days now. Ive noticed the stock temperature guage is at around 130-140F after a 20 minute drive. Im freeway driving at around 4k rpm and temp is not going up! I do not want any premature wear on the motor!

Car currently has:

Everything stock on s52 with about 55k miles
Mishimoto aluminum radiator
80/88 degree temp sensor
BMW coolant

Thermostat could be stuck open. I'd start there.

I was asking about OBD2 as i would investigate what the ECU is seeing for coolant temp. The M20 gauges are usually pretty far off depending on age, resistance drop, broken board, etc.

Oh ok. The gauge was operating pretty well when the m20 was still in the car. Gets stuck in the morning, but comes up when I tap it a few times.

Get an OBD2 scanner that spits live data and see what the ECU is seeing. I bet youll be surprised. Ive had plenty of swap cars come through here that the gauge read 12:00 at 220F.

Ive actually just ordered a thermostat and a aluminum housing. It'll arrive on Sunday, so we'll see if it fixes it. I really hope its just a stuck thermostat.

I think so... I've never seen adapters for the bluetooth ones. The peake scanner would work.

I use a 20-pin adapter and bluetooth OBD2. Recommend buying a cheaper bluetooth piece (without software) and get Torque Pro if you have an android.

That's awesome! I was going to buy that $110 to point unit. Yeah I'll much rather pay $25 that module.

Fixed! New thermostat (+ metal housing) repaired the cold operating temp.

Car has mobil 1 5w-30, so 100 celcius operating temperature is pretty much perfect. Viscosity of 10 to minimize the wear.
