M50 Swap with M20 Fly and ZF Box

    Hi Guys,

Just about to embark on dropping an M50 into my E30 soon. I was planning on using a M20 flywheel and matching it to the ZF 5 speed box. I've tried searching this forum and a few others for what clutch to use and every time i search i seem to get a slightly different answer.

I wan't to just check that a M20 clutch will fit and work? or is a different release bearing used? (a few of the responses i have found talk about a e21 bearing?)

Secondly how much power and torque will the stock M20 Sachs clutch hold? The car is used for drifting so will take some abuse to the clutch and i plan on turbocharging the engine down the line so was just trying to be a bit forward thinking.

Thanks in advance for your help. Sorry I know this is a question that pops up a fair bit but i just wanted a clear answer unlike what i have found that has left me a bit puzzled on the whole subject.

I would use sachs SRE -618 [883082.999618] pressure assembly and stock clutch disk with m20 flywheel (It will hold more than 350Nm of torque). Stock clutch might hold for some time, but I wouldn't use it for drifting. You will need that e21 323 clutch release bearing too. Also you need to grind of some material from m50 e34 oilpan to make that m20 flywheel to fit and also you need m20 starter (or bendix from m20 starter). Also remember to use correct clutch slave cylinder for zf gearbox. The m20 getrag slave cylinder wont work.

i did an s50 swap don't know how much different but i have an lightweight flywheel and used an f1 stage 2 clutch and pressure plate set which ran me about 120 for the kit.(jus the clutch kit) upgrade your clutch if you gonna be sliden!

I was aware of the M20 starter being needed and the slave cylinder.

The e21 release bearing i guess is also still needed even if a performance M20 clutch kit is used. Tempting to contact Sachs and see what they can offer me.
