    Air Conditioning Parts List Check

Gathering the next round of parts for my swap and I'm up to the AC system.

So far I've got that I need:

    Parts:
    - Compressor from 24v engine
    - Parallel flow condenser
    - Drier

    Lines:
    - Firewall to compressor
    - Compressor to condenser

What other lines do I need? Which lines need an E36 fitting and which ones an E30? I don't have the car to look at at the moment.

R134a expansion valve is suggested if you are in fact using r134a (which I believe you have to at this point, not 100% on that). Although I personally didn't switch mine and it works great. I would have switched it but it was a royal pain to get to so I tried it without and can't complain.

You'll also want the proper pag oil for your compressor, the belt/pulleys/brackets from the associated 24v engine.

You need to either purchase the E36 compressor to E30 Lines sold by a vendor or have E36 compressor lines and E30 lines modified/ joined together by an AC shop.

Yep I'm going R134a. Where is that expansion valve located? I've still got everything out of the car so I'm guessing this is the time to do it.

Which lines need to be joined?

The expansion valve is under the dash on the passenger side. Whatever lines connect to the e30 compressor need to be modified to have the e36 unions welded or brazed on. I forget the exact routing but it's not difficult to figure out.

Basically you need e30 lines going to and from the compressor but with e36 fittings grafted on.

Be careful of the angle that they're welded/brazed on as it can matter with respect to clearing the e30 body right next to the compressor. The lines need to come down more perpendicular to the ground, not so much parallel to the ground if that makes sense. I don't think it's a big deal but it got me in trouble with mine and I had to do it twice. Mine is a bit different though.
