First time buying a BMW engine

So my m42 seems to want to shit the bed, the coolant seems to dissappear but not smoke from exhaust ao im guessing profile gasket... In a month i may need to drive it daily for about a week or 2 So im opting for an m50swap as it doesnt seem very difficult seeing as i have a 318is and a getrag 240. Im not sure if this is a good deal or not anyone care to chime in? Im not impressed with the little issues of the 4 banger and how parts are the same as the 6s.

Basically found an m50b25 from an e34 with 214xxx km (canada) with ecu harness no accesories or thrttole body for 850$ is this worth it or should i purchase a parts car at this point? Or just throw in another m42 for the time being and rebuild this one?

I just want a better engine reliabilty wise im not that interested in more power as this my weekend car. Does this seem like a good idea? Is 850 too much for a non complete engine?

    Any help is appreciated.

Get another M42, they can be had for cheap, and then rebuild the one that's in there now.

$8.50 seems a bit steep for an M50. I'd look for a motor in a u-pull-it. Much cheaper and you can pull whatever else you need as well.

$850 will usually get you a whole car.

Actually, that is a good point. You can pick up a running/driving E34 for $1000 all day long.

ya that's what I thought, I might as well just buy a whole car. especially since its missing stuff. its maybe ill just look for another 4banger for now. I came along an m52 with allegedly 156km. but cylinder 4 was like 185psi. he wanted 450$, no bueno right?

i bought a whole 94 e36 for my swap. makes it easier to get all the little bits and pieces if you havent done the swap before. I love my m50 swap and with all the info out there, its not hard to do.

850 is horrible, try for less than 500 for the complete motor with accesories
