e36 steering rack with m52 swap

So I swapped out the rack while I had my motor out. All the standard rack swap mods are done (spacers, u-joints, etc.) and it fit in nicely.

Now I have the m52 dropped in and I'm having a hell of a time getting the high pressure line to reach from the rack to the pump. I've read that people just bend the lines to make it match up (on an m20 atleast). Well despite my efforts the lines don't want to bend. I have a propane torch and I tried heating it and bending, but still no luck.

Anyone else run into this? Any suggestions?

I bent mine by hand in a vice when I did it. Had to do a little hand tweaking once they were bolted to the rack also by hand.

The vice is key. I was able to bend it by hand, but it does take a bit of effort.

Might take a little trial and error but it should be able to go where it needs to.

I was able to get it to fit by flipping the hose (so the loop is by the pump) and fine tuned by bending the loop. Took very little modification.

I thought I read that someplace too and when I looked a flipping it around the banjo bolts were different diameters. Maybe because it's a motor from a 328i?

Weird, mine are the same.

Go to NAPA and have them make you one that fits. Mine worked but was really too long.
