    m50 swap knock sensor

    Hi,

I am completing my m52 swap into an e30. I converted my m52 to OBD1 but I'm stuck at the knock sensors issue, how do I connect the knock sensors? I have two replacement OBD1 knock sensors but the Engine Harness only has space to connect one sensor. Anybody's help would be greatly appreciated in getting my car up and running.

Also, to verify, I needed to change my knock sensor, crank sensor and coolant temp sensor (foruse with my e30 gauge) correct? If I am wrong please steer me right.

    Thanks.

    MG

s50 has one knock sensor... so you just hook up one.

as far as new sensors you need:
    cam sensor
    crank sensor
    motronic temp sensor
    gauge temp sensor( for e30)
    knock sensor
    mass air sensor
    o2 sensor

I am sure that the m50 has two sensors. Your diagram backs us up on this. Any more takers?

I'll add that the s50 has two and I'm pretty sure you need to pay attention to the connectors as it's easy to connect them up backwards. I think I pulled the boots back on the connectors and verified the wire colors.

Use an m20 coolant sensor, and find your other knock sensor plug then double check before you try running the car. Its pretty tough to get to all of them with the manifold on.

double check harness all m50 s50 obd1 harnesses have 2 knock sensors if you are missing a plug look for cut wires, if its cut see if you can find a bad harness to get a plug from.

You definetely have 2 knock sensors and yes check your wiring connections you probably have something hooked up wrong or someone sold you the wrong friggin engine harness from a newer engine that utilizes 2 knock sensors on one harness plug.

still (2) knock sensors......but you are looking at the OBD2 WIRING HARNESS. all s/m50/2's have (2) knock sensors, it just that the obd1 has (2) harness plugs and the obd2 has a single (4 prong) connector. are you going the obd2 electronic route? not many have. cheers, jason.
