    shifter carrier

so i hooked up my e30 shift carrier for the getrag260 and it's off by 10degrees as expected, but it's also crooked now. I dont think it's going to work very well. What did you guys witht he 260s do? would a shift lever carrier work from an e36? thanks

i have the aluminum carrier from the e30, (they are the same as the e36 ones). i just put everything in and it worked fine. i fine tuned the way my shifter sat, by tweaking the bottom of the lever a little bit.

So even though the carrier isn't going to sit evenly or straight it will still work the same? All i have to do is bend the selector rod 10 degrees? What worries me is the pivot point on the shifter has moved more towards the passenger side, it's not quite centered in the hole(where the lever goes through) anymore

wrong, the e30 and e36 carriers have different lengths. use the e30 carrier with the e30 trans......and the e36 carrier with the e36 trans.

correct. the e30 carrier remains unmodified. just bend the e30 selector rod (or intermediate shaft which is much easier) 10 degrees. when you mate the e30 trans to the m50, you compromise the shifter geometry. it will sit very cockeyed......about 10 degrees.

        cheers, jason
