318 is in the ETM. It has everything from 84 to 92, 318, 325e, 325i, 318i, m3, 325ix, and 325ic.
The discs with the e30 stuff has the e36 and e31 on them, you'll need another set for the e34 ones.

man im in for such a good time when it comes time for the wiring
e34 harness + 91' 318iS body/harness =
so you said the ETM you got ETAsport doesnt really cover the 318iS in depth??Leave a comment:

Okay, so e30 pin 16 has to be not used. Since the 89 and earlier did not have airbags, then there is no way it should be hooked to anything im gathering. I assume its only purpose is to aid in a pinout test through the diagnostic connector on cars so equipped.
And I know e36 pin 10 cant be used, but it would match up for oil level, pin 16 I wasnt aware, but gonna have to go with the other oil level. So that leaves me with e36 pin 17. And im just a tad bit confused still. I cant figure why the code reader wouldnt work, it worked fine on my car.Leave a comment:

its really encouraging to see others diving into the wiring diagrams. i hope you dont get too many emails / pms from people wanting to diagnose their wiring problems.
double check your e30 pin16 (wht/blk).
also, here's a hint. e36 m50 does not use pin16 (wht/yel) or pin10 (blu/yel) but.....the e34 does.

Havent tried it yet, as I just came up with it. Something still bothers me about e30 pin 16 though.
It worked using addissimo's chart, but I traced the ETM thoroughly and m50 pin 19 is definitely SI reset. The only descriptions I found for m50 pin 16 and 17 were TXD and RXD. The e30 uses these but they come right off the DME and go to the diagnostic connector. Probably wont get a chance to check it out til this weekend.Leave a comment:

So, I've found a little more discrepencies as my latest pin chart proved to have some errors.
Most of the stuff in the tabled diagram I found to be correct.
Pin 19 of the x20 is definitely SI reset function (Pin 7 of diagnostic connector)
so it goes to pin 11 of c101.
Pin 16 still somehow goes to the diagnostic connector. The function I found was that it was for SRS, however I believe that Pin 16 and 17 of x20 are for RXD and TXD diagnosis lines.
From what I gather TXD looks for errors in components and sends codes to the diagnostic connector. I was thinking maybe run Pin 17 (TXD) to pin 16 or the c101.
I was unable to get my code reader to work with the last diagram I came up with.
Here is my new list.

I realized that a little after that post.
Eureka! I've discovered the secret!Leave a comment:

If you have the etm you need to start on the "power distribution" page and go from there. Page by page you will find all the pins and wire colors. A more detailed list of where you'll find them, power distribution, starter, charging, fuel injection, fuse details, instrument cluster, and active check panel. There isnt a chart like the one above.Leave a comment:

This is the only thing I can find under "engine diagrams"

None of the engine harness sensors.
Can someone post a picture of a '90 airbag car c101.
Or diagrams for each of the engine components.

So I was almost wondering if I should go through all the years and make some charts then use it as an ultimate wiring thread. It seems like everyone should be open to the info, but in the same time I dont know if I want everyone to benefit from all my time. thoughts? maybe if we split it up since lots of us in this thread know how to do it?Leave a comment:

Here is the wiring diagram from the ETM for the late 89 and up ABS (Pin #20 Red/Yellow). You can easily see where you need to pull the power from off of the Main Relay.

You have to basically search each system page in the ETM's and look for the C101 and x20 connectors in the individual diagrams. Look at the pin# and wire color and compare it to the chart you are creating. If it matches what you have, check it off and find the next item. It can be slow and time consuming.
I really wish they had a pin chart for the C101 and x20 for each year. It would make this process a whole lot easier.
The chart I have listed above, as far as pins and wire colors is accurate for a late model '89 'i' and a 93 M50tu based on the ETM.Leave a comment:

They must custom make each adapter for your year car and motor right?Originally posted by mattIf it was easy, Treehouse couldn't charge $400 for an adapter.
EDIT: I do have the ETM's for both cars, but I'm having trouble finding usefull diagrams.Leave a comment:

I bought a blank E30 engine side connector and pins. I cut off the E36 engine side connector to expose the wires. I'll crimp the appropriate E36 wires and place them into the corresponding slots (according to the above pin chart) in the E30 engine side connector. The new E30 engine side connector (w/ E36 wires) will be attached the the E30 chassis side connector at the stock location. The unused wires I will cap off and secure under shrink wrap. I assume this is the proper thing to do, correct?
From the looks of my chart, I should have 5 pins (3,8,11,17, and 19) that are not used. The only two that had original functions with the E30 C101 are pin 8 - Fuel Rate Output to Motronic Control Unit and pin 11 - Service Indicator Reset.Last edited by Mike B.; 08-15-2006, 06:23 AM.Leave a comment:
