    24v swap guru's

hey all, i have a s52 in my car, and the chain started to rattle... the motor has about 170k+ and cant recall the last time any of the timing componenets or vanos was replaced.. it was swapped at 120k.. basically:

do i need to BMW cam shaft locking tool to do the chain/guides/ and vanos?

to take off the timing cover do i have to unbolt the oil pan?

any help is very much appreciated.
