    Goetze Rings M50

Been lurking for a while, finally had something to post. I'm in the middle of my M50 rebuild for a 24V swap. All the parts arrived today (ordered from RMEuropean) everything looks great except the rings. The box says this:

When ordering from them, I had 1992 325is (car the motor is out of) checked. They had 2 sets one through 8/92 and one from 9/92. Mine was a pre 8/92. Anyways I figured better safe than sorry and I'd ask around for opinions on what went wrong.

Heres a picture of my freshly honed bores :)

So you have m50 without vanos? Then those m20 piston rings are correct ones.

Yah it is a M50NV. It was just weird, because when I go on Federal Mogul's website, they specify totally different set of rings.

So I opened one up one pack since it looks like I have the right rings and the oil scraper center ring has some surface rust. These things are really fighting to not want to go in!

Yeah that's a mistake. m50nv uses same piston rings as m20. Then m50tu with vanos uses same piston rings as m52 and m52tu. That surface rust doesn't look critical but I would ask the seller to better set.

Cool, thanks for the info, I'll get in touch with them to switch them out.

Totally unrelated, main cap bolts... New or reuse old. I've also read a ton of conflicting info there as well. I used the old ones to plasticguage so they have been torqued at least twice.

So I went out and checked, I torqued the main bolt with my beam wrench to the 15 ftlb and then 50* and its only about of 30-35 ftlb. That is with the threads oiled like the book says.

I seem to be having trouble getting the 3 piece oil ring to seat, the expander ring is much to big to even fit in the bore. The compression and 2 oil seal rings fit great with a 19 thousandths gap. Anyone have any advice on setting up the 3 piece oil ring set?
