Need a write up on doing the lower timing guides

I own the Bentley and it doesn't go into any detail about the lower timing chain guides. Anyone have a good link to a how to article? Or am I missing it in the Bentley. I need new timing guides on my s52

    Thanks,

It's pretty straight forward, take off front timing cover and they're just right there. They pop off with a flat head and you Just click the new ones in. You'll have to remove the valve cover and then the 3 small torx bolts that go to the head and then of course everything on the front of the motor and also a few Bolts from the bottom in the oil pan.

To truly make sure you have a good seal between the bottom of the head and the top of the timing chain cover when you put it back together, you should really drop the oil pan too. I'd say your chances of doing it successfully without dropping the pan or taking the head off are 50/50.

It should be mentioned for other people reading this that it is impossible to remove the OBD1 main tensioner that is metal without removing the head. It is however possible to buy another tensioner and swap over the plastic friction piece.

OP, drop the pan, remove the crank pulley, harmonic balancer, water pump, three external torx from the head side and the cover should come off. The OBD2 tensioners are all plastic and snap onto the pivot studs. The main tensioner should deform enough to get it out if the head is still on.
