    you could spend 6k on an S50 swap easy by just doing basic upgrades and maintence, I would replace Vanos, chains, oil pump, valve retainers and springs while you have the engine out.

                S50 is the way to go, all day. Stock or just slightly lowered compression can easily net you 450whp with an efficient setup.
