    m52 overbore pistons

my m52 is at the machine shop and it looks like i may have to get oversized pistons/rings. Im wondering if there are any oem options such as 3.0 or 3.2 mated with the 2.8 crank? I guess my main two questions are as follows:

    1) can the m52 even be bored out enough to safely fit either piston?
    2) will i run into issues with valve-piston clearance?
    3) what displacement would this combo yeild?
    4) if any of this isnt possible, whats a good source for overbore pistons/rings?

i have no experience with the overbore of the m52. my buddy overbore his s50 by .025. within 100miles the block liner cracked and developed very odd wear marks. not sure if this is common with overboring, but another engine builder did not seem suprized. tms wiseco forged pistons were used. seemed like a nice product. kit included wrist pins, rings and pistons. final bore was just shy of 87mm. cheers, jason

Is your block steel lined or nikasil coated?

Nikasil blocks can't be bored at all.
        Current:

        BMW 320i 2d 2.0 m20 -88
        BMW 325i Cabriolet 2.5 m50 -88
        BMW 316i touring 1.6 m40 -90
        BMW 320i 4d 2,2 m54 -01

The US did not receive a Nikasil M52. All M52s were made out of cast iron, except 1997-1998 Z3s, which had an aluminum block with cast iron liners that can be bored to 85mm or so.
