    M50/g265 driveshaft question

So my friend and I have been working on his e30 m50 swap. He purchased the car a year or so ago with an m50 and g265 already swapped into the car. In our rebuilding of it, we realized that we have no idea what driveshaft he has in the car. Our main question now is what driveshaft/driveshaft combo do we need for this? His car is a 1988 BMW 325is with an m50b25 and getrag g265 transmission behind it. Thank you in advance for any advice given?

G265? you mean the M30 gearbox out of a 635csi? Or is it a G260 from an e30?
A G265 will not bolt up to a M50. Different bolt pattern.

Not exactly sure. My friend told me it is a g265. Would make more sense that it is a g260. I know that is a stock E30 transmission but would having that behind an m50 change what driveshaft is needed in the car?

If it’s a E30 G260 behind a M50 you would be able to tell from the aftermarket trans cross member.

Also the shifter selector rod would be offset.
        A m50 mounted to a G260 usestge stock driveshaft.

The G265 was found in many M30 powered cars, but it was also offered in the 1982 528e with an M20, so it is very possible that OP found a G265 to run behind his M50.

You will need E30 M3 driveshaft (no way around that, due to length). I think you would need E30 M3 selector rod and shift carrier, as well as the little bracket that allows you to use an aluminum shift carrier behind a G265, which also comes from the E30 M3. You would also have to fabricate a custom trans mount.

If you are using a stock E30 325i G260, it all bolts up the same as stock, except for the trans mount. You will need to get a custom unit. Hope that helps.
