    E30 Hillclimb car M52b28 dyno, low Power?

    Hello, a few days ago I installed the m54b30 camshaft and the m50nv intake cam as exhaust. I had previously applied the m50 intake and complete exhaust line (headers straight to muffler in the rear). To find out the true TDC I used on dial.
    For the m54 intake cam timing used the camshaft locking tool. To do the escape timing I divided the degrees this camshaft offers more (12 degrees) getting the opening 45 degrees BBDC and closing the 15 degree ATDC.
    Today I went to the dynamometer and was waiting for at least 220hp to the crankshaft. And he debited a maximum of 200hp and 266N.m.
    Below I leave the graphs of potenia, with the comparison between a stock and a modified ecu. The modified ecu was to rich, bellow afr 11, so a big drowback to.
    Can anyone help me? is my timing bad? the first thing i will do is buy an wideband and make afr~ 13.5 at WOT

    AFR is rich, what does the timing look like? And that power is to the crank or to the wheels?

      Power is at the cranck. Yes, i already installed one wideband and now i am in the afr~13 during WOT. Timing is now after new remap ~26º during vanos on until 5,1k rpm then drops to ~23,5º till 27º in red line. Just some minor knock readings bellow 5k rpm.

        The exhaust cam is probaply degreed wrong. I have never done the timing like you described. But normally cyl 6 valves should be open from 0,1 mm to 1 mm at TDC. The best working value needs to be tested.

          This is on an engine dyno, not a chassis dyno? What ECU are you using to control the engine? What is your baseline number before the mods?

          I have no experience with the M52 or M50 engines, so I can't help with your cam timing issue, but you are definitely losing some power by running at ~.75 lambda. I'd say go up to at least 12 or 12.5:1, which you said you did. Have you dyno'd again since making the change?

          Were you logging other data during these pulls? What was the barometric pressure? What were your intake air temps? Was this a transient or steady state test? Do you have a way of logging airflow through the MAF? What octane fuel are you using? Ethanol content?

          I'm assuming that Patm is your barometric pressure? 988 mbar is actually a bit low, so that would definitely be having an impact on your power output unless we are already looking at corrected power.

          There are a lot of factors to consider, and many people who don't have professional experience running an engine dyno or analyzing engine data will try to oversimplify or make too broad of assumptions. Without real data it will be pretty difficult for anyone to try to diagnose your issue.

            13.5 AFR is rich enough to give all the power you can get out of the engine. Only if it knocks before optimal ignition timing is acheived, then richer AFR helps pushing more timing. M5x engines do not normally need to go very rich. The 13AFR should be enough. And based on those ignition advances, the engine currently runs really close to optimal timing. So I would guess cam timing issue. You could try adding fuel to that dip before 6000 and try to put in more timing. If I had logs from the pull, that would tell if there would be gains doing that. But it won't help much because the power is still low everywhere.

              Hi, responding to your questions, one error i did is that i not measured my baseline before the mods.. ECU is stock ms41 modified by me using romraider. I dont have loggs of the pull, only some loggs done in road testing. Air temps wherer good, the dyno had two huge fans in front of the car.
              The day of the dyno was rainning probably that explaines low barometric pressure. But the power in the chart is already corrected.
              The fuel i used is 98 RON whit fuchs silkolene aditive.
              Maybe my big problem was the way i degreed the camshafts..

                Hi, first let me thank you by your help you had done in my car, just by watching your videos and posts.:p
                I dont have other away to degreed it, i think.. Because i dont have the stock flywheel. So i found the true TDC, then degreed the exhaust cam to 45º/15º knowing the stock cam is 39º/9º. And for the intake cam (m54b30) i used the bmw locking tool. What i think is that i need to advance a little bit thee exhaust cam, maybe to 47/13.. But is expensive to go to the dyno for testing various set ups.

                  Here i have on logg that i made a few days ago when i was getting the afr right, just to see if i was getting any knock during big loads. I can see in some WOT pulls i am getting 600+/- mg/stroke of air. I think that indicates a good VE during the rev range... It can be seen that starting ms 58562 in the logg and ms 79713.

                      Yesterday i token off my valve cover to do a full reading of my exhaust cam duration. So I put the dial in the top of the valve lifter and using one degree wheel in the cranck I read the true valve opening and close.
                      In conclusion, the valve starts opening around 57° BBDC and fully closes around 25° ATDC, so that gives me a true duration of around 262°. I am a little confused, as it should be 240° duration... but the timing is good, as the exhaust lobe are equally to stock.
