Silly question - fuel line under pressure when battery is disconnected

Stupid question alert! I had the intake manifold off to hook up heater core hoses, and was surprised to find that the fuel feed line had quite a bit of pressure built up, and would keep pushing fuel out until I clamped the line. Is this normal? I thought with the car off & battery disconnected there would be no pressure.

    Car is an 89 with OBD1 S52.

    TIA!

Yes. There is a check valve in the pump to ensure there is pressure in the line so that starting is easy.
