I'm gonna dyno it with the new midpipe mod, cuz it feel's like a totally different car, *especially* from midrange to limiter. If the curve doesn't change, I'm going in for surgery.

.........*I* think it's a cam timing issue, although the guys at the shop say it's not possible as the cams can only be locked down one way.
Another opinion is the actual VANOS, but I get no codes for mechanical malfunction, and the switch over happens approximately where it should. Any opinions Stu?
i doubt its the vanos unit. vanos engages around 2500 and disengages around 5500. it helps mid range torque.
re:cam timing. i installed some m3 cams on my old m50tu. car pulled VERY strong in the upper rpm's. a friend had the m3 cams installed by a local shop. his car pulled harder in the mid, then fell off a bit in the higher rpms. we could never figure it out.....untill we ripped everything appart. the local shop installed the cams around 2deg retarded. dont ask me how or why.
what cams are you running? the schrick cams SHOULD NOT be installed with the locking tool. they need to be dialed in. i had a buddies car go through this. if installed "straight up," they might have clearance issues. rumor has it.... there was a batch of schrick cams that are off time floating around. we happend to find (2) of the (2) sets to be off time with the locking plate. and sunbelt.....rumor has it, those are never installed "straight up."
if you have stock cams, it mmight be worth just double checking.

Tell me about it i have the damn e36 325 midsection and noticed it was skinnier than the M3 piping. I guess that makes sense though.Last edited by aeryk7; 10-13-2006, 01:02 PM.Comment
