Levelling switch in oil pan

Well I bought this m50b25 engine from a '91 525i. it had a levelling switch in the oil pan (#11)

but the oil pan didnt suit my 325iX -> 325i rwd m50 conversion, so i swapped it for a oil pan, that came from a 325i. but the new oil pan doesnt have that switch.

what is that switch for ?
is the switch in the 3series engines in somewhere else or can i just leave the plug in my harness unplugged ?

I believe it is for the dummy light when you run low on oil.
I bypassed mine, machined a aluminum dummy plug to fit in place of it.

There is a factory plate that will also go there.

So no need for it. Im going to install an oil pressure gauge anyway, so when theres no oil, there cant be any oil pressure anyway.

does the e36 motor harness have a low oil plug?

i just left mine there since I had no suitable alternative to replace it. Don't plug it in, no problems.

Are you expecting to run a pressure sender there? - if so, I've never heard of being able to pull a pressure signal from an oilpan. No pressure there. Great spot for an aftermarket temp sender, but you need to come up with a solution for pressure sending up by the oil filter - you get pressurized oil there.
