    OBD1 swap

    im planning on doing an s52 swap and i already have the engine but im trying to figure out everything i need to do an obd1 swap. what do i need?

          Um, no. The M50 manifold is not the only thing you need to swap in order to operate an M/S52 with OBD-I electronics.

          Basically, you'll need the sensors, DME, and wiring harness from an OBD-I engine. The sensors you will need include a second temperature sensor for the gauge cluster, a crank position sensor, either an OBD-I Vanos unit or Vanos extension wire. You can choose to retain the OBD-II metal coolant 4 way pipe, but you'll have to mod one of the manifold brackets, IIRC. To make things easy, just get an OBD-I manifold, fuel rail, and throttle body as well.

          The temperature sender stuff will not work for an E30, however. You will have to either tap the head for a second sensor, or your head may already have a second coolant temp port if it is an earlier casting. You can also take the temperature at different locations as well, like the thermostat housing.
