    What head can I use?

I finished my swap about 4 days ago, now I need a new head mine is cracked. I have a 92 nv m50, do I have to use a non vanos head or can I buy any m50 or s50 head and take the vanos off? Since I will probably have to take the engine out to change out the head what crank options to I have.
    Thanks again

no need to pull the engine. you can pull just the head off.

im guessing you want to stay with the m50(nv) head.
m50nv head = stronger / larger valve stems.
s50 head = possibly soft retainers.
m52 head = lighter lifters, (ive heard of cam fitment issues though) need to tap head for temp sender.

re: block. the m50nv is the same as the s50....just smaller bore. ive been told that the m50nv does have the thicker lining to accept a much larger bore (unlike the m50tu.)

    so.....s50, s52, m52.....how fast can you afford?

however, the weak spot of a large displacement nv motor is the hfm. i have not come across any solution to getting a 3.5" unit.
    cheers, jason

Thanks Jason I guess I'll just stick with the nv head, I'm really relieved to hear I don't have to take the engine out.
