    Cost/hours to swap S52 into 85 318i

Looking for idea about number of hours or labor cost (in general) to swap an S52 and tranny into my e30. Meeting with the mechanic tomorrow so I need a general idea of the going rate/time. Too busy at work to contribute any significant time. I have the complete 98 M3 sedan. Thanks.

Your going to need more parts other than whats in the 98 M car. You are going to have to convert it back to OBD1. IF you know what you are doing and have the Treehouse Racing adapter it should take you a good long weekend to get it done. Your also going to need a e34 pan and new mounts. Its pretty easy swap if you have the parts!
Build your own dreams, or someone else will hire you to build theirs!

When I asked for a quote on the labor when I was first thinking of doing the swap, my local shop said 40 hours.

Doing the swap into an 84 318 is a little more complicated than a later car. Most shops would probably charge 40-50 hours for the conversion. You still probably would need 2-3K in extra parts on top of what you have.

I would think he could get it done for under30 hours. Parts are extra of course.

your looking at around ~2k for all new parts, and another 2-3k in labor, if the shop has done a 24v swap before.

              diy

As time went on, the factory developed the car each year, making it faster, more comfortable, and capable of handling at higher speeds.
You don’t want this. You want the trickiest, most dangerous, oldest model you can find. Only then can you prove to the world that you’re a man.

Estimates from a shop here in town are $7-$8K for a turn-key deal. That's starting with a $3500 motor. Includes everything - drop it off and pick it up and drive home.

Thanks. Any suggestions on locating a comprehensive list of parts needed and a place to buy them or is this like my old motorcycle where I have to scour the galaxy for obscure parts? Sorry for all the noobie questions, but I am what I am. I did read the long post on 24v conversions, up to page 33 so far. I'm in Columbus Ohio if someone knows of a good parts supplier nearby.

I Don't seen an oil pan, or oil pump, or assorted pickup parts.

Aslo add belts and tensioners. Your motor for $140 and trans for $100 are a bit too cheap.

i guess i havent added it yet.

thats the prioces you get when you pull them yourself and you are patient. there are junk yards galore in florida. and im resealing the motor as we speak. has some sludge but overall is very good. that motor price is the reason why i am doing the swap. it would have never dawned on me to do.

of course there are deals found at junkyards...however, he is asking the price for a LEGITIMATE shop to do the work. Legit shops do not pick up engines for that price.
