S5x Swap with forced induction into E30 M3

I currently have an ’88 E30 M3 with a stock S14 that is leaking from many places. I have a broken off exhaust stud and next fall (after the track season) I plan to swap in an S5x.

I’ve driven many S50/S52 powered cars and the power is great, should be very nice in my near stripped out E30 M3 (cf hood, cf sunroof, no rear seats, no a/c, no stereo).

Has anyone gone with a supercharger or turbocharger kit for their S50 and had it fit in an E30 M3? I realize that E30 M3 non-M3 engine bays are the same (I think) but I don’t want to run some hideous from bumper.

Thoughts? I’ve received a quote of $2,500 to do the swap for me from a very reputable place. I may also consider DIY if I have the time and put that $2,500 towards a FI kit.

Your thoughts? I’d like to be ~300bhp at the wheels with LSD and proper gearing (for a track more like WG instead of LR). I’m already looking at brake kits to stop the car with that kind of power.

I’d also like to keep the engine and induction pieces down in weight as much as possible. I have removed the a/c but don’t want to fuck the balance of my car too much.

I'll go back to reading through all these useful threads. I'll also have the rust repaired while the engine is out and will remove the carpeting to spray the inside. Trying to figure out a "livery" as well.

    My E30 M3.

an s52 w/ proper mods should get you to that hp figure w/out forced induction. cams and chip, hfm, and all the other bolt on stuff could get you around 280whp (i've seen dyno charts). eurosport twin screw supercharged on an s52 makes really nice hp also. i've seen over 400whp out of supercharged s52s. maybe add ITB's to that first scenario and get the power NA. its up to you, its easy to make power out of those motors.

the standard schrick cams, big injectors, 540 hfm, and software will get you MAYBE 300 flywheel hp, but thats it. i don't know what other bolt on stuff there is besides headers.

Schricks, 24lb, Euro HFM, software gets you around 245 - 248 whp on an S52. Add an exhaust and high flow headers and you might pick up a handful of whp at some engine speeds.

A member here with a jacked out naturally aspirated S52 in an E30 M3 put down 278 whp. But, that is with +1 Ferrea valvetrain, worked head, headers, etc.

Optimo, I'd be game for lending a helping hand if you decide to convert to an S5x, if you're still in RI.

You might be thinking of my car, but it's no e30 M3. I am running right around 280rwhp right now, but it's with all the afore-mentioned parts (plus more), and +2mm oversized Ferrea Sodium filled valves (plus all the acoutrements), competition port and polish, shorty headers, and a bitching exhaust setup. There's more, but it takes too long to list it all.

I've been toying around with what to do with some "play" money this winter, and I have the itch for more power, so I've been tossing around the idea of doing a Eurosport TS on my car. So far, it looks as though the numbers show a 160 rear wheel hp gain, and about 90lb/ft of torque. I'd love to see what a 2800lb e30 with over 450 crank hp feels like. Probably like :eeek:

A friend of mine with a 3.2 M3 who has been racing in the BMWCCA series in IP turned me onto the SunBelt cams quite some time ago .

He was running the 24lb injectors along witht a 3.5HFM coupled with the AA headers and exhaust and he was getting right at 275 to the wheels .
All of that was with OBDI also . (obviously)

Seems like all the guys running the SunBelt cams with this set-up are all getting just on either side of 275 at the wheels .

It certainly was bmw332i who had the jacked out S52. Eurosport TS, haha, that would be quite a ride. Sounds like you'll be going through tires that much faster!

A conservative turbo S52 will put down 400hp or so. You can always tun the boost down. You'll be looking at ~60lbs more weight mostly on top of the front wheels though. E36 bottom mount manifolds fit fine in e30 S50s and such.

Any reason why the TS kit wouldnt fit in a e30s5x?

As time went on, the factory developed the car each year, making it faster, more comfortable, and capable of handling at higher speeds.
You don’t want this. You want the trickiest, most dangerous, oldest model you can find. Only then can you prove to the world that you’re a man.

Id be very surprised if it did. There is very little intake manifold clerance to the brake booster. Nothing is impossible though.
