    ahh

actually, having seen both the oilpans myself (325ix and e34 525ix) and looking at this project http://wp1016621.wp027.webpack.hoste...604/f01604.htm
i would suggest drop the 525ix oilpan idea and make an adapter plate, because the 525ix oilpan has different bolt pattern for front diff mounting, so it wont be bolt on.

i just dont understand why nobody hasnt thought about an adapter plate like this before.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see this as much as the next guy, but I bet the IX drive parts won't much like extra horses.

it probly wont happen, it was just a randome thought that i really got excited about. o well......... maybe somebody will do it.

That does seem simple enough .

I would say that on that particular car it can work better since the car is lifted and is used for rally-x type events .

Whereas a street car would suffer from the already low pan being even lower to the ground using an adapter plate like that .

Still it should be easy enough to make it work using a simple adapter .

in general I would say a s50 swap over a turbo, but for the IX application I think the best increase of power per dollar would be a turbo.

I don't recall the difference between the m20 and m50 oil pans (as far as width and mounting holes), but I'm guessing that you wouldn't have to make the adapter plate that thick. It could be as simple as a 3/8" thick plate of aluminum. The only thing I'd be worried about if you made an adapter that thick would be the axel position, if its much lower that it came stock you could get some premature wear on the cv's.
